What is Masters Athletics ?Casey Cardinia Masters Athletics Club competes within the Victorian Masters Athletics association (VMA). More information on the VMA can be found on their web site at https://vicmastersaths.org.au/ This association runs track and field events and competitions for athletes aged 30 and above, with a number of clubs across Victoria coming together for regular events. In most competitions, athletes will compete within a 5 year age group, for example if you are aged 47 you will compete against others who are aged between 45 and 49 years.

What is the format for training ?All athletes train together in a fun and supportive session coached by our head coach. Sessions will vary in format from week to week, however generally the sessions will be conducted as follows : - All athletes arrive prior to the start time and perform their own warm, running laps and/or stretching as required to ensure you are warm, important for avoiding possible injuries. - A quick group meeting is had where we discuss the week's events and milestones, and we end with a group photo with smiles all 'round. - All athletes take part in some further warm up drills led by the coach until everybody is ready for the session. - The main session typically will be distance based, with a nominated number of "efforts" and "recoveries". For example 5 x 800m efforts (2 laps) with a walking 200m recovery. This changes every week and can be adapted to match your individual training goals. Typically the main session would last just under an hour. - Athletes will generally run in groups of similar ability (ranging all the way from walking pace) which ensures a fun and supportive atmosphere for everyone, whilst still challenging you to give your best. - At the end of the session, athletes perform their own warm down. - Tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits are then available for everyone in the club rooms for those that like to hang around and chat.
